Obama to include more non-American techs in his immigration plan

Obama To Expand Temporary Tech Visa ProgramThe much sought after proposal by Obama extends the temporary visa program for foreign graduates to work in the U.S. for up to 29 months. The number is limited to 1,00,000 or 2,00,000 at the moment which is not enough to satisfy the skilled workers count in tech companies.

However, this temporary visa scheme is neither perfect nor permanent. It does not safeguard the rights of the workers such as payment according to industry standards, leaving a scope for exploitation by the employers.

According to the Guardian and the Centre for Investigative Reporting, there is involvement of body shops, recruiting firms that include broker jobs and help the immigrant workers get temporary visas. High-profile companies like Verizon, Apple and Cisco have used these services. The extension of this visa would definitely bring down the number of middlemen and thus, protect the rights of foreign workers and save them from getting exploited.
